Egypt Medal very fine, a little pitted, and suspension loose.
William Payne was born in Kenilworth, Warwickshire in 1862.He attested for the 28th Brigade in Warwick on 21 July 1880.Transferred ti Royal West Kent R.
Served Egypt, Sudan Gibraltar and at home.He was discharged as Sergeant in 1892 having completed 12 years service.In the 1901 Census he is shown as living in Cosham, Farnham Hampshire, occupation given as Soldier Colour Sergeant
Sold with a related British War Medal to MAJOR W PAYNE-this extremely fine on original ribbon.
His Medal index card shows ineligible for the Victory Medal, and Medal roll states "Visit to France" so this looks like his WW1 sole entitlement.
London Gazette 3 November 1914 2nd Battalion Manchester Regiment William Payne to be Temporary Quartermaster, with the honourable rank of Lieutenant Dated 17th September 1914.
London Gazette 14th October 1915 The Manchester Regiment.Temporary Captain William Payne from a service Battalion, to be temporary Captain and Adjutant.Dated 12th August 1915.

In all probability this is likely to be the same man.
